Hood Movement 21 is a movement headed by Reverend Harry Williams, II. He is on a  mission to impact youth who live on the merciless streets of the west side; Oakland, California.Harry  Williams, II is a voice crying out in the wilderness of urban America; a prophet with a pen. The people in the hood recognize and respect his ministry.Reverend Harry displays the cutthroat world of Oakland while showing  the possibility of hope and redemption.

 

What is Hood Movement 21?

The Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s was a hodge podge bankers and pool hustlers.  This diverse group which stretched from Maine to the Florida, was drawn together and worked in concert to secure equal rights for people of color.  People as diverse as singer Bob Dylan actor and writer James Baldwin found a place among the foot soldiers.  The Movement was comprised of churches, organizations and unions.  There was never a mailing address where you could send for a membership card.  It was as the name implies, a movement.

The Civil Rights Movement sputtered after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination.  It’s leaders were slow to adapt to changing times.  They were even slower to pass the mantle to successors who could have developed new ideas and recruited young people.  Today, as gunfire snatches away the lives of our youth on a daily basis; as America’s prisons turn into concrete warehouses for our children; human trafficking becomes a viable livelihood in the ghetto; as globalization and gentrification thin out resources, we must come
together. Hood Movement 21 is that coming together.
